Greetings, Blogger.

Replacing the hard-disk for OS and that of Buffalo DriveStation HD-HX10TU3

I bought this Seagate Barracuda 2TB  at 7200 RPM with 64MB Cache to replace the Samsung 1TB one inside the DriveStation. Sorry but I did not take some unboxing photos. However, the conclusion for replacement test is more important so I will put it here.

IT WORKS.

How to open the casing of Buffalo DriveStation HD-HX10TU3, and other similar casings

I bought this particular Buffalo DriveStation HD-HX10TU3 (1TB) external HDD when USB 3.0 starts to get popular. Of course, the 1TB capacity can't simply satisfy my ever expanding BD, DVD, and CD collections. The time has come to upgrade but there is the dilemma: Should I sell this old one and buy another, or should I just buy another one straight ahead? Why not crack this thing open and replace the drive inside, and possibly get the 1TB drive out for my main system?
Problem is, I can't find any guide that is specifically made based on the very same model as I have. Luckily there are several models from Buffalo that use very similar casings as this model. I found the following two videos that are cracking open a LinkStation Live instead. Note how similar the models are.

I even found a Japanese one in the recommended videos. This similarity is the main reason why I put the title as "and other similar casings". Still, I note down the procedure that I took for reference. Be warned that this action WILL definitely void the warranty. Not a problem for me anyway.
